Group ExercisesThis type of exercise is aimed at measuring those competencies which are best revealed in a group situation. How well can the candidates argue? Are they able to convince one another? Who is going to lead the group? Who is generating the ideas? Abilities such as these are best assessed in their „natural environment”. Roles are either assigned or unassigned and the group is observed by a team of assessors looking at how the interaction between the group is happening and the roles being played out. In-traysIn this kind of exercise candidates have to work from the contents of a manager’s in-tray consisting of letters, memos and background information, and have to arrange, priorize, take action, and write memos – typical everyday tasks of managers. These exercises measure abilities such as planning, organising, problem-solving, written communication, decision making, and tactical as well as strategic thinking. Fact-finding ExercisesIn fact-finding exercises the candidate is required to reach a decision while starting with only partial knowledge. He or she needs to understand what additional information is needed to make the decision and sometimes to question the assessor to obtain this information.
